Scuba diving in the Sea of Cortez is a truly unforgettable experience, with reefs, caves, shipwrecks and sand falls to discover and explore. The Sea of Cortez is considered to be one of the most vibrant bodies of water in the world, supporting over 800 species of fish, from colorful tropical fish to pelagics such as whale sharks, giant manta rays and hammerhead sharks.

The Cabo San Lucas Bay provides great diving conditions, depending upon the season. Diving conditions are favorable throughout the year. The months of June to December offer the greatest visibility, the warmest water and prolonged periods of calm weather. Visibility can exceed 100 feet, and the temperature averages between 78 and 85 degrees F. A deep submarine trench follows the bay and creates a unique marine environment attracting a profusion of marine life. Here the water is warm and the currents are gentle.

An excellent dive destination is Cabo Pulmo, located on the East Cape area past San José del Cabo. This is home to one of North America's few living coral reef systems. In many areas of Los Cabos, large congregations of fish are visible on rocky slopes adorned with gorgonians and graceful sea fans. Sea lions, turtles, eels and large groupers are common sights here.

Los Cabos is unique in that several of the finest snorkeling and scuba diving sites are only a 15 to 25 minute boat ride from the Cabo San Lucas marina. At Pelican Rock, which runs 25 to 100 feet deep, there are many colorful fish to see, along with fascinating rock and sand formations.
