La Paz
If
you are interested in a slightly more traditional Mexican town to visit,
La Paz is full of old colonial buildings, has a very relaxed and hospitable atmosphere, and yet is quite a cosmopolitan city with modern amenities. Surrounded by the spectacular natural beauty of the desert and the Sea of Cortez, La Paz is also the capital city of Baja California Sur. Originally, tales of gold, silver and pearls lured Spanish explorers to the region. Today, the natural beauty of the area continues to draw visitors looking for an authentic taste of Baja.
Although not
quite as popular among the tourists who visit the Corridor, La Paz
offers many nice hotels, shops and beaches. La Paz boasts its own international airport and a variety of entertainment options. Take a leisurely stroll along the scenic malecón, enjoy the many delicious dining options, check out the lovely Our Lady of Peace Cathedral across from the town plaza, or take in the local color at the Mercado Municipal Madero where vendors sell everything from fresh fruit to trinkets. La Paz also features a car/passenger ferry
which runs back and forth to mainland Mexico.
The water is warm here
and the fishing and scuba diving are some of the very best in all
of Baja. The waters surrounding La Paz are a dream for fishermen, divers, kayakers and snorkelers alike. Kayakers enjoy exploring the isolated coves of nearby islands. Fishermen find prize marlin, roosterfish, dorado, tuna and wahoo in seasonal abundance.
Outside of La Paz, you’ll find outstanding private villas along the spectacular coastline. Nestled in beachfront locations along the aquamarine waters of the Sea of Cortez, these luxurious villas offer unparalleled privacy and luxury.
