Hiking in Baja Sur
Make sure to have good footwear and plenty of water when hiking in Baja Sur, as you may encounter a rocky terrain in some places. Since the climate is dry, you will probably need at least 2 liters of water per person for the day, depending on how hot the temperatures climb. The temperature cools down quite a bit at night, so make sure to have enough layers of clothing to be comfortable.
You
must be especially careful when hiking in Baja's desert lands. You
will need twice as much water since it is so hot and dry. Good sun
protection is also essential.
All types of dive experiences can be satisfied here, from shallow to deep, night to wreck dives, from playful sea lions to the elusive sea horse. Large congregations of fish are seen on the rocky slopes covered with gorgonians and graceful sea fans. Sea lions, turtles, eels and huge gropers are common sights here.
There
are many hiking trails in Sierra de Laguna. It is one of the most popular
hiking spots for residents of the Cape area. Approaching from the west
side is more direct, although a bit steeper than from Rancho San Dionisio.
This hike from the west side can be completed round-trip in two days.
The vegetation changes quickly along the way, from desert to forest,
and the views of the sierra and of the Pacific Ocean are absolutely
magnificent.
